“It’s of course Kate Burke & Ruth Hazleton with their new album. This is a fine collection of traditional songs, mostly from Australia and England, as well as some original songs and tunes by Kate. The songs are well re-searched and presented in transparent and lovely acoustic arran-gements. It also helps that the sound quality (i.e. recording and mastering) is much improved from their earlier recordings and the crisp and clear sound makes it a pleasure to listen to, and the well produced booklet provides lots of insight into the songs. The singers take turns in solos and unite in smooth, yet expressive harmonies. Musicians making subtle but important contributions are Luke Plumb, Bob Heftier, Ed Radclyfie. Gill Cosgrove and Pat Lyons.” Review by Dieter Bajzek.
About the artist: Kate and Ruth have spent the last nine years playing together at festivals around Australia and overseas, and their trademark interpretations of folk songs have won them great acclaim and popularity. Along the way they’ve collected awards, fans, and a banjo, and have been described by the Australian as “Why folk music is cool again”. They have just completed their third tour of the UK and have released their fourth album, ‘Summer’s Lonesome Tale’. Kate Burke (Guitar, concertina) and Ruth Hazleton (Guitar, banjo) are renowned for their vocal harmonies, warm and humorous performances and musical excellence.
