Rachel Dillon – Long Distance

$15.00

With poignant storytelling and sensitive delivery, Rachel Dillon draws her listener in to the unsolvable landscape of human relationships and experience.
“Long Distance” is Rachel’s first recording. It features six original songs, including one that was shortlisted in the Australian Songwriter’s Association Songwriting Competition of 2009.
Rachel was stirred to begin writing songs by the powerful imagery of artists like John Prine, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch.
In a recent ‘Trad and Now’ Magazine, reviewer John Williams wrote, “Rachel Dillon has a beautiful voice and is an accomplished songwriter. This six track CD is a delight from the beginning. I found it compelling listening and quickly found myself joining in the chorus. Rachel’s voice has a distinct quality and she writes interesting, thought provoking songs.”

CD Review by John Williams.
Rachel Dillon has a beautiful voice and is an accomplished songwriter. Her lyrics are personal and her voice allows her to sell her songs well. This six track CD is a delight from the beginning. The fi rst track ‘Hell for Leather’ is a beautiful story of childhood, friendship and regrets. I found it compelling listening and quickly found myself joining in the chorus. Track two ‘Laurie and Margaret’ was my favorite one on the whole CD. It concerns a couple in their seventies who just want to get away from it all and go fi shing but are trapped in their lifestyle. It is sentimental but most enjoyable. ‘Goodbye, Good Luck, Goodnight’ is about someone leaving their life behind in a bid to make a fresh start in life. I enjoyed this track. The next track, ‘My Imagination’, was another enjoyable song. ‘Surround Me With Trees’ is about a desire to get away from it all and live a quiet existence. This is a very personal song as Rachel lives this life herself taking off to the Kimberley each year for a rejuvenating life affi rming experience. It is a beautiful track. The final track, ‘Never Tell Another Lie’ is a harsh song about the conditions our earliest convict settlers had to endure. Rachel sings about the hardships, cruel treatment, starvation and the neglect and callousness of the military administration. It is reassuring to see that the current brigade of singer/songwriters is continuing to interest themselves in our own history. More power to them. I enjoyed this CD. Rachel’s voice has a distinct quality and she writes interesting, thought provoking songs. I can recommend this CD to the reader.
