Tehai – From the Inside-Out

$25.00

Subtle and beautiful instrumentals, ragged acoustic pop songs and an inclination for the unexpected; Whilst sometimes compared to My Friend the Chocolate Cake & The Waifs (& are more appealing to a three-year old than The Wiggles…just ask Taran’s niece!) Tehai continue to defy categorization by exploring the common ground between contemporary classical and pop music. Recently returned from several successful performances at the Woodford Folk Festival in Queensland and having just released their extraordinary debut album “From the inside-out” this quartet of multi-instrumentalists (flute, cello, guitar, piccolo, saxophone, glockenspiel, bass, drums, percussion and vocals) are in better form than ever.

If you enjoy gutsy flute playing, sublime vocals, virtuosic drumming & beautifully crafted compositions you will love Tehai.

Tehai – From the inside-out

Armed with a menage of instruments (flute, cello, bass, saxophone, glockenspiel, piccolo, guitar, drums and vocals), and a bevy of gorgeous tunes, Tehai is the band for every season: some fresh folk, a dash of charming classical, a tad daggy pop, and saturated with sultry sounds. This Melbourne quartet was concocted by young up-and-coming contemporary classical composer, Taran Carter. Although busily expanding his list of high-calibre composing gigs (including commissions by the MSO, Opera Australia and the Aussie Synchronised Swimming Team), Carter needed a safe outlet for his guilty little penchant for pop. And so Tehai was born in 2003. Since then, Tehai have graced the stages of many festivals, including the Woodford Folk, Kilmore Celtic Festival, Half-Bent and Taste of Living. They have also been playing in and around Melbourne at haunts such as the Empress, Barbukka and Cafe 303. These four sweet, spunky pixies hail from the Victorian College of the Arts and make noises that have been likened to My Friend the Chocolate Cake, The Waifs and Naked Raven. Sometimes exotic, and often hypnotic, eclectic and spasmodic, you’ll be lulled one minute and jiggin’ in your seats the next. So, if you’re into sublime new sounds, you can catch Tehai soon at the Kilmore Celtic Festival (25th & 26th June), the Boite World Music Café, and MOST importantly, the massive Cornish Arms Launch Party on the 15th July. Caitlin Williams (flute & bass), Hugh Harvey (drums), Karolina Cutler (cello & vocals) and Taran Carter (guitar & vocals) invite you to help them launch Tehai’s debut album From the Inside-out on the 15th of July at The Cornish Arms (with Sally Dastey from Tiddas). They’re so adorable you’ll wish they were yours to take home.
